Petitions demanding the Release of Political Prisoners in Indonesia
have increased since recent years, raised by the democratic groups and
activists who have deep concern to human rights and law enforcement.
With the support of legal aid institutions and humanitarian service bodies
the Indonesia Society for Humanity (MIK) has organized a number of open discussion and
seminars since 1993 to discuss about issues of political prosoners of the Suharto regime.
Suharto´s step down on May 21, 1998 was a significant success of the reform movement
pioneered by students, which has brought about a new hope of human rights and law enforcement
in Indonesia
Along with the rice of total reform spirit the Action Committee for the Release of Political
Prisoners (KAP T/N) come forth with the support of ex political prisoners, families of
political prisoners, pro democratic, human rights and humanitarian activists, intelectuals and
legal aid and human rights institutions.
